The Ford Fiesta - The UK's Best-Selling Car 9 Years Running
Ford Fiesta – The best-selling car 9 years running
The Ford Fiesta has a grand history and accolades to match, back in 2014 the Fiesta took over the Ford Escort for the title of ‘Best-Selling Vehicle ever in the UK’ and it came as no surprise as it has been the best-selling car every year running from 2009 all the way up to 2018; so we wanted to showcase how and why the Ford Fiesta has gained this prestigious title.
Affordability
You can’t become the best-selling car in the UK and best-selling car 9 years running without people being able to afford you. People love a bargain, from the start of the Fiesta’s life in 1977 it has kept its price affordable for the majority of people; in 1977 the Mk1 started at £1,856 – around £10,500 in today’s money but since then the competition has only got harder and bigger than ever and although some makes and models can undercut the Fiesta’s current starting price point of £13,965 they can’t compete with its value for money. Reliability
Considering how many of these cars have been built and how long they’ve been sold for (41 years) the Fiesta has held up well in terms of reliability. Although the Fiesta has had some recalls across its lifetime many were just minor faults and cementing the fact that to be the best-selling car you can’t be breaking down every 5 minutes.
Practicality
The Fiesta has grown with age, 20.5cm in fact and this means it has become more and more practical, offering a car that can be this practical along with price point is difficult to rival especially with the latest Mk7 offering even more boot space than the previous model as well as all of the other upgrades.
The Drive
Everyone knows that Ford are excellent at making cars that people enjoy driving, they pride themselves on it and the Fiesta has been doing that from the beginning. The perfect combination of sharp, responsive steering matched with a well-balanced chassis is the best balance between fun and comfort that you can find, it leads the way in this class of car.
Style
The Fiesta has never had a problem with style, the older models may look dated now but in their eras, they fit in perfectly and were stylish. With the Mk6 the Fiesta changed the hatchback market with its combined look of angular modern sporty styling with the same practicality; the latest model has been updated with new looks to again look stylish and this time has gone for a curvier look but still with some of that angular styling to give it an edge.
The Brand
Ford is one of the longest-running car manufacturers and with age comes wisdom, they have perfected cars throughout the years and gained a worthy reputation because of this. Being able to continuously produce great cars for the mases doesn’t go unnoticed, Ford has also offered some of the most iconic cars in Britain’s motoring history, continuously beating its own title achievement of best-selling car in the UK so will always be a popular choice with the British public.
Choice
The Fiesta, as well as Ford’s other cars always offer a great choice in spec which means that people can be picky and that’s just what they want when buying a brand-new car, the current model has 18 different specifications including the infamous ST which has led the hot hatch market, the most recent version released in 2017 offering the traditional excitement to drive, comfort and upgraded tech from the previous model means that there is the best of everything for everyone. If the ST doesn’t take your fancy there are plenty of other options starting with the Style, then up to Zetec all the way through to Vignale which is top of the range and offers everything you could possibly have in a small hatchback for a great price.
